African Dance Course

In African Dance, movement and rythms belong together. The movements are natural and uncomplicated. We dance with gravity, not against it, and work on posture and coordination. At these courses we work on different dancing techniques and we learn traditional African dances. We learn songs for the dances, and the dances are accompanied by live drumming. Movements, rythms, songs and choreography are joined together. There will also be a meeting witk younger African music traditions (as we did on the afro-dance course last autumn).

In the beginners course we learn the most basic dance tecniques with dances and choreography. The advanced course offers more advanced dances and a development of the dance tecniques. At the courses we all learn new dances from the start, while we still dance the dances we learned before. African dance is for everybody! The most important factor is the joy and energy we get from dancing.

African Drumming Course

During this course we will learn playing tecniques and different traditionael rythms. We work with playing together and everyone gets individual feedback. You don't need to have your own drum to join, you can borrow one at the course or rent one to take home. Abu also has quality drums for sale.

The beginners course starts with basic playing tecniques, simple rythms and group playing. At the advanced courses you are expected to know the basic tecnique. The rythms are more advanced, and we play together and solo.
